What foster carers do

Supporting children
Foster carers provide care to a child or young person that can't live with their birth family.
As a foster carer, you will form professional relationships with:
- the child’s network of social workers
- health professionals
- teachers
- the child’s parents and family members
This network will support and guide you through the complicated journey of fostering. It'll be demanding, but very rewarding.
You'll support the child or young person, meet their daily emotional, physical and health needs, as well as supporting the child or young person with their education.
You'll provide a nurturing environment where the child can develop aspirations, feel safe and be a member of your family.
Who makes a good foster carer
We are looking for people who want to make a difference to the lives of children and young people.
Fostering could be for you if you have:
- life experience
- patience
- empathy
- resilience
- the ability to stick with our children through the good, the difficult and sometimes the dark days of their journey
We will work together as a team, to ensure every child’s life chances and achievements are the best they can be.
As a foster carer you get a support package including allowance for the child or young, training, and regular professional support.
