What is the Green Homes Grant
As part of our commitment to build a sustainable borough fit for the future and become carbon net zero by 2050, we are supporting the Green Homes Grant Local Authority Delivery Scheme (GHG:LAD) and working in partnership with 13 London councils.
The scheme gives homeowners a £10,000 grant, landlords and housing associations £5,000 to pay for energy efficient improvements such as:
- low carbon heating systems
- insulation
- smart heating controls
Eligibility criteria
You may be eligible to apply for the scheme if you:
- own or are living in a home with an energy rating of D, E, F, or G. Check your Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating
- have a total annual household income of £30,000 or less
- own or are living in a home in Barnet
Benefits of applying for the grant
Having an energy efficient property will save you money.
Improvements made to your home will help you achieve a higher energy efficiency rating, and it will also help tackle climate change by reducing the carbon emissions caused by poor insultation and outdated heating systems.
All installers and contractors for the GHG:LAD scheme improvements are TrustMark registered.
How the grant can be used
You can use your grant to make improvements to your property:
- walls
- floors
- loft
- roof insulation
- hot water tank insulation
- doors and single-paned windows
- install low carbon heat systems, such as air source heat pumps
- install heating controls
What isn’t included in the grant
Improvements not part of the scheme include gas boiler repairs or replacements and existing double-paned windows.
During your home survey all alternatives will be discussed with you and you will be advised if other schemes, such as ECO are able to assist with these improvements.
Grants for landlords and housing associations
Private landlords and housing associations may apply for a grant on behalf of tenants who meet the eligibility criteria.
Landlords are eligible for up to £5,000 to cover 66% of energy efficiency work.
This means you can get up to £7,500 worth of measures installed for a maximum contribution of £2,500
You can also agree to additional works with the scheme manager at your own expense.
If you own multiple homes and can afford pay 33% of the overall works, you can apply for more than 1 eligible property.
How to apply
You can register online or call 0808 196 8255 and ask to be screened for the GHG:LAD scheme.
Due to high demand there may be a delay of several weeks before they respond to you.
Registering your interest only takes a few minutes and is completely obligation free.
You will receive a screening call from the GHG team to confirm your eligibility. They will ask you questions about your income, benefits status and household.
A certified Retrofit Assessor will visit your property, create a whole house energy efficiency plan and personal recommendation to make your home more energy efficient.
