About school parking permits
If you are employed at a school that is in a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), is already part of the school parking scheme and you have been given permission from the school. You may be able to buy a school parking permit to allow you to park in some resident permit holders bays.
School parking permits are virtual, which means you do not need to display anything in your vehicle. Your permit is electronic and is associated with your vehicle registration number.
Patrolling Civil Enforcement Officers will be able to view your permit on their handheld computers.
You can apply for a 6 month, 9 month or 12 month permit.
The school permits cannot be used in the area immediately surrounding the school. This area will be defined before the permits are issued.
The school permits can only be used during working hours and term times only. The times and dates will have been agreed before the scheme begins and may be subject to periodic review.
Where numbers are limited, the school will be expected to allocate permits according to their own policies.
You will receive renewal reminders in advance of the permit expiry date.

Apply for your school to join the scheme
Schools must apply to be included in the scheme.
To be included, the school must:
- be in a controlled parking zone
- be Ofsted registered
- have an up to date school travel plan
If you think your school qualifies, the school should email parking.clientteam@barnet.gov.uk
Once we have confirmed that a school meets the criteria, we will:
- survey the use of permit bays where the school is located
- check that demand for parking spaces isn't likely to exceed 85% of those currently available
This will contribute to the decision as to how many permits will be available for school staff.
A recommendation will then be presented to local councillors, who will consider local circumstances and make a decision whether to accept the scheme or not.
We would expect the process to take up to 4 to 6 months from start to finish.
