Sure Start Maternity Grant The Sure Start Maternity Grant is a one-off payment towards the cost of maternity and baby items. You may be entitled to this if you are on a low income or getting certain benefits of tax credits.  You are entitled to the grant if you or your partner are in receipt of the following on the date that you claim:
