Serious crime cut in Barnet as borough selected to trial pioneering policing tactics

Barnet Council has been selected as the first local authority in London to partner with the Metropolitan Police to trial a new approach to tackling serious and organised crime on the borough’s streets. The programme, called ‘Clear, Hold, Build’, has seen council officers and residents of Colindale’s Grahame Park Estate working with the Police to identify issues, make arrests and clear it of those threatening the safety of residents.

Tennis for all as council completes £1.2m courts refurb

Barnet Council and the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) have completed a £1.2million transformation of 39 tennis courts across 14 of borough’s parks as part of a joint initiative to ensure high quality tennis facilities for residents, get more people active and open up the game to more people. Barnet Council contributed almost half (£545,101) of the total funds, with £688,451 coming from the UK Government and LTA as part of a nationwide programme to transform thousands of park tennis courts.

Barnet Council and Live Unlimited, a charity set up by the Council to support care leavers, are celebrating Care Leavers Week with activities and events across the borough. This year, the nationwide initiative will run from Wednesday 25 October to 1 November and will shine a spotlight on the remarkable journeys of care leavers, amplifying their voices, raising awareness of their challenges, and encouraging policy and practice change.

In the week that marks the start of Islamophobia Awareness Month, Barnet Council held an initial meeting with representatives of the borough’s Muslim communities, with a view to holding a wider round table discussion soon. Participants had the opportunity to share their concerns and insights about the local issues arising from the conflict in the Middle East with the council’s leadership, as well as with the Metropolitan Police.
Barnet residents to come together for Remembrance Day services

Barnet residents will have the chance to pay their respects to those who have died in conflicts around the world at Remembrance Day services on Sunday 12 November, with several services and parades in the borough. The Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Nagus Narenthira, will be attending Hendon War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday and will lay a wreath on behalf of the Mayoralty, Councillors and burgesses.
Barnet Council Launches new four-year plan to improve young people’s lives

Barnet Council’s new four-year strategy aimed at improving the lives of children and young people in the borough was launched at the Full Council Meeting at Hendon Town Hall, on Tuesday 11 July 2023. The event was attended by young people from Barnet Youth Assembly, who opened the meeting and helped announce the Children and Young People Plan.
