New Public Space Protection Order for Barnet will make the borough safer

Following a public consultation in the autumn, a borough wide Public spaces protection orders (PSPO) for Barnet began on Monday 12 December and will be in force for three years. This order allows designated council and police officers to take swifter action against those engaging in anti-social behaviour activities, by issuing advice, fines, behavioural orders, and formal prosecutions as appropriate.

Barnet Council launches its first-ever Citizens’ Assembly on climate change

Barnet council is asking residents to help answer the question of 'how we can be more sustainable now and in the future' by becoming one of 40 members of its Citizens’ Assembly. The borough's first-ever assembly will begin next month, with invitations sent to a representative mix of 8,000 households across Barnet this week.

A Service of Commemoration for Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was held this evening, Sunday 18 September, at St Mary’s Church in Hendon followed by a minute’s silence observed at Hendon Town Hall. The service was conducted by the Vicar of Hendon and Area Dean of Barnet Reverend Dr Julie Gittoes with the Worshipful Mayor of Barnet Cllr Alison Moore and Representative Deputy Lieutenant Mr Martin Russell also paying tribute.
Barnet Council launches consultation on A1000 cycle lane

Barnet Council has launched a consultation on the A1000 cycle lane which includes a series of workshops and focus groups involving local residents and businesses. In late 2020 as part of a Government and Transport for London (TfL) funded response to Covid-19 impacts on public transport, the council installed the cycle lane from just south of North Finchley Town Centre to the borough boundary with Haringey.

Councillors are also encouraging motorists to other forms of sustainable transport for the day, while raising awareness of the various benefits that active travel, such as cycling and walking, have to climate change, health, the air we breathe and the local economy. Cllr Alan Schneiderman, Chair of the Environment and Climate Change committee, said: “We’ve declared a climate emergency in Barnet and have put sustainability at the heart of everything we do to ensure we become a net zero borough by 2042.

Barnet Council awarded Silver by Defence Employers Recognition Scheme

Barnet Council has been recognised for its commitment and continued support to the Armed Forces and has received a Defence Employers Recognition Scheme Silver Award. Barnet Council’s Armed Forces Champions Angela Richardson and Councillor Lachhya Gurung collected the award on behalf of the council at an awards ceremony at the Royal Automobile Club in Pall Mall on 18 October 2022. The award was presented by His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant, Sir Ken Olisa OBE.
£240,000 Barnet Community Innovation Fund opens for applications

Barnet-based community groups can apply for a grant from the £240,000 Community Innovation Fund (CIF) from 31 October, to help fund projects that tackle food poverty and the cost-of-living crisis. The fund, now in its third round of applications is particularly interested in seeing applications benefiting communities with poorer health outcomes.
