Check that a restaurant, takeaway or food shop has good levels of food safety by viewing food hygiene ratings
What is the Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme?
The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme helps you choose where to eat or shop for food. It gives you information about hygiene standards in restaurants, pubs, cafés, takeaways, hotels and other places you are served with food to eat, as well as supermarkets and other food shops.
The Food Hygiene Ratings Scheme is operated by the Food Standards Agency and delivered by Councils. Our team carry out inspections of food businesses in Barnet to check levels of safety and hygiene.
After inspections, a food hygiene rating between 0 and 5 is given (5 is very good). Most food businesses are part of the scheme, but some very low risk businesses may be exempt, for example a newsagent selling only wrapped sweets. Some of these businesses are still listed, but will show as exempt from the scheme.
Request a re-visit
You can request a re-visit where your business will be assessed for a new rating at any time after your inspection.
Before you request a re-visit you should take action to rectify any non-compliance(s) identified at the time of inspection.
This is a chargeable service. The current charge is £267.54 (VAT not applicable). If you wish to pay by credit or debit card please call 020 8359 7995. If you wish to pay by cheque please send the cheque with a completed Food Hygiene Inspection re-visit form. Cheques are payable to The London Borough of Barnet.
You should be aware that your rating can go down, go up or remain the same following your re-rating visit.
If you would like to request a re-visit please download and fill out the Re-visit form (ODT, 68 KB) to complete and return it to foodsafety@barnet.gov.uk
Your re-visit will not take place until you have paid the £267.54 charge.
You should attach or include evidence of works carried out such as receipts and photographs. If you require further information you should contact the inspecting officer using the telephone number on your inspection report.
Appeal a rating
You can appeal a rating if you do not agree that the rating reflects the standards at the time of the inspection.
Right to reply
You have a right to reply in respect of the food hygiene rating given. You can explain any mitigating circumstances or state improvements that you have made since the inspection.
