Barnet Libraries presents: An ONLINE evening with author Phil Vasili discussing the contribution that black players have made to football in Britain & his stunning book on Edward Tull-Warnock, one of Britain's first Black professional dentists, qualifying in 1912.
Edward was also a professional football player and brother of Walter Tull, who played for Spurs and was an army officer.
Black Swans of the beautiful game unearths the rich contribution footballers of colour have made to the professional game in Great Britain. Often forgotten, these pioneers are only now being acknowledged for their ground-breaking role in opening the door for future generations of Black players to pursue a career in the game.
Through the prism of Edward Tull-Warnock's biography we discover the Black Atlantic histories of an African-Caribbean family, from plantation slavery in 18th century Barbados to urban professionalism in twentieth century Glasgow.
There will be a Q&A session at the end of the talk.
