20 January 2025Subject: Freedom of Information Request: Vacant council-owned buildingsDear London Borough of Barnet,I am writing to submit a request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I am writing toinquire about the availability of any vacant council-owned buildings, preferably formerschools or nurseries with Class F1 status, that may be suitable for rent.As a parent of a six-year-old boy with autism and ADHD, I have experienced first-hand thechallenges faced by children with special educational needs (SEN) and their families.Navigating through both SEN and mainstream schools has highlighted the gaps in currenteducational provisions. Inspired by my personal journey, I am working to establish anindependent SEN school dedicated to supporting children with autism and socialcommunication difficulties.This school will be uniquely designed to meet the individual sensory needs of each child,with a strong emphasis on movement-based learning principles. Our approach will ensurethat each child's progress is carefully tracked and evaluated, and parents will be kept fullyinformed and engaged throughout their child's educational journey. The goal is to create anurturing and inclusive environment that empowers children to reach their full potential whileproviding families with the reassurance of consistent communication and meaningfulprogress.To bring this vision to life, I am seeking a suitable space, ideally a building with facilitiesconducive to an educational setting. I would be immensely grateful if you could advise me onany potential properties within the council's portfolio that might meet these requirements.
