Mobile COVID-19 testing unit returns to Barnet for week beginning 13/07/20

The unit will be open for tests for attendees in a vehicle and on foot between 10.30am-3.30pm on each day at:

  • Barnet House – Wednesday 15 July, and
  • Brent Cross Shopping Centre – Saturday 18 July.

Communities come together during COVID-19 crisis

The COVID-19 crisis has been devastating for many but seen Barnet at its best with communities pulling together to help those most affected. While lockdown has meant strict social distancing, many local groups and charities have found interesting and novel ways to combat loneliness, provide essential support to those most in need, and to keep the community united.  

Remembering Srebrenica: Statement from the Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Cllr Caroline Stock

The massacres began on 11 July 1995, when Bosnian Serb forces, led by General Ratko Mladić overran and captured the town of Srebrenica in Eastern Bosnia. It had been declared a UN Safe Area, but in the days following, more than 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys were systematically murdered and buried in mass graves. Srebrenica Memorial Day is now marked each year on 11 July.

The Barnet Community Response Fund awards £50,000 to local organisations

The Barnet Community Response Fund has awarded £50,000 to 28 of Barnet’s local voluntary, community and faith organisations, with grants of up to £2000 each.

Set up in partnership with Barnet Together and Barnet Council, the Barnet Community Response Fund enables local organisations to continue providing frontline support to those most in need.

Armed Forces Day 2020

Barnet was due to mark the occasion with a ceremony held at the RAF Museum, Hendon, but the current situation has led to the event being cancelled. 

It was to have been attended by the Worshipful the Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Caroline Stock, as well as army reservists, cadets, ex-servicemen and women, and was to have concluded with a fly-past by a Lancaster bomber from the RAF’s Battle of Britain Memorial Flight.

National School Sport Week at Home: Ensure no child misses out

The campaign is hosted by Youth Sport Trust who have teamed up with Sky Sports to support Youth Sport’s Trust’s #StayHomeStayActive campaign which has been supporting schools, parents and young people with daily free resources to get young people moving and enjoying the PE curriculum while at home.
