The oldest building standing in Stonegrove today is occupied by Apex Garden Materials. It originally formed part of Nichols farm, and is from the 17th century. Further up are two sets of almshouses.

Hadley Common was once part of a great expanse of land known as Enfield Chase.  This was a favourite place of the Tudor monarchs for hunting. Local people, including the inhabitants of Hadley, were allowed to keep sheep and cows on the land, as well as take some firewood.

How we deal with complaints about noise from alarms on unattended vehicles or houses. We will formally investigate alarms if the noise continues for a long duration and there is no possibility of contact from keyholders or owners to resolve it. Once you have reported the problem to us:

Major construction sites can cause loud levels of noise. Construction and engineering works include: demolition, maintenance, repair and erection of buildings. Much of this noise is unavoidable due to the nature of the work. The permitted hours of work on construction sites when noise can be heard are: Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm Saturday, 8am to 1pm

Buskers and street entertainers are allowed to perform in Barnet without a licence. If your instrument is amplified you could cause a nuisance to businesses. If you are a business and you are being bothered by a busker, you can report the noise problem to us. This form will take 10 minutes to complete

We will investigate noise form deliveries or collections that are regular between 11pm to 6am and occur at private premises. We cannot control delivery noise that is just from the highway. It is reasonable for people to practice their musical instruments at home. Up to one hour practice a day is likely to be reasonable and not a nuisance.  If you are being disturbed by music practice speak to your neighbour, you could try to agree a time for practice that suits you both. However, loud and persistent playing of musical instruments can be a statutory nuisance

It is reasonable to expect some noise and inconvenience if you live near restaurants, clubs and pubs. We will investigate noise from late night music if it is above the background noise in your habitable rooms. If we think there is a breach of a premises licence or if the restaurants, pubs and clubs are operating without one then we will pass this onto the Licensing team.
