Bed-in-shed landlord fined

Barnet Council’s Planning Enforcement team prosecuted S&R Investments, after it ignored repeated warnings not to use the building behind a semi-detached home in Kings Close, Hendon, as a residential dwelling.The company was fined £10,000 and ordered to pay costs of £2,755.60 after being found guilty of failing to comply with a planning enforcement notice at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on 5 March.

The new Brent Cross West Thameslink station will be central to the Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration programme and will provide capacity for up to 8 trains per hour reaching Kings Cross St Pancras in just 12 minutes.

The council sold The Lodge in Victoria Park in 2015 and it is a requirement that any funds raised from the sale will only be spent on Victoria Park. The council, along with Groundwork London, developed a Master Plan for the park, which was agreed and adopted by the council as Trustee of Victoria Park Trust in early 2019.

Following consultation on the initial draft, which broadly demonstrated support for the proposals (for both Copthall and Mill Hill Open Spaces), key responses affecting the design specifically in relation to the Copthall Sports Hub section of the masterplan were received.

New Bevan Community Church: ACV disposal

As a listed ACV, this now triggers the start of a six-week period where the owner cannot sell the property and eligible community groups are invited to provide an Expression of Interest in being treated as a potential bidder. The council is therefore now inviting any eligible community interest group to express an interest in being treated as a potential bidder by no later than 5pm on Friday 17 May 2019. The service, which includes keeping all 14 libraries open, offers longer library opening hours, and a number of improvements to the range of digital services available such as e-books, audio books and use of the Pressreader app which gives library card holders free online access to thousands of newspapers and magazines.Construction of a third new library building is well underway and will open its doors, alongside the brand new leisure centre in New Barnet, later this year.

Mehdi Amrollahi, 58, of Hendon Way, Childs Hill, who is thought to have left the country, was ordered in his absence to pay £223,751.31 under Proceeds of Crime Act legislation after a hearing at Harrow Crown Court. Investigators from the council’s Corporate Anti-Fraud Team (CAFT), working with Planning Enforcement officers, were able to use the Proceeds of Crime Act to bring confiscation proceedings based on the significant income generated from renting out the flats for almost six years, flats which never had the necessary planning permission.

Step-free access for Mill Hill Broadway

The DfT’s Access for All programme – originally launched in 2006 – will fund improvements at 73 railway stations nationwide after an additional £300million was set aside for the project. Mill Hill Broadway caters for 2.7million train passengers per year – with eight trains per hour stopping at the station during normal daytime service. New gates will be installed as a part of the project to help cope with the number of peak-hour passengers and expected growth in the future.
