Road risks brought to life for teenagers

Safe Drive Stay Alive (SDSA) – staged from 11-15 November – explores the circumstances that can lead to a collision and the consequences that follow in a hard-hitting and emotive way. Two speakers shared their emotional stories of losing loved ones, while the London Fire Brigade, Metropolitan Police and Ambulance Service recounted their first-hand experiences of dealing with road accidents.

The initiative – now in its fifth year – will cover the following dates:

Swap, don’t shop for your next festive outfit!

Almost a third (26%) of the average Briton’s garments have not been worn in the last year. Why not dig out those clothes lurking at the back of your wardrobe, bring them to Swish & Style and swap them for a new outfit for this year’s festivities? There will be two events from 1-4pm at the artsdepot, 5 Nether St, North Finchley, N12 0GA, on Saturday this week (14 December) and on Saturday 15 February, 2020.

Christmas bin collections 2019/20

Garden waste collections are currently paused Real Christmas trees will be collected between 6 January and 1 February. If residents would like their real Christmas tree to be collected they must ensure it is cut in half and put the at the boundary of their property on their normal collection day.

All it takes is a short visit to barnet.gov.uk/civic-awards where you put them forward for a Civic Award. You can also nominate someone by emailing mayor@barnet.gov.uk or phoning the Mayor’s Office on 0208 3592652. The only rule is that nominees must live, work or study in the Barnet borough. Nominations close on 31 December. There are three categories you can choose between:

Back Barnet in London New Year’s Day Parade

The themes of the event in 2020 are ‘health and wellbeing’ and ‘loving London life’. You can watch it from 12noon on Wednesday 1 January on London Live, via Facebook and Twitter @lnydp, or at lnydp.com. You can vote for Barnet to win the People’s Choice award in the London Borough category via the LNYDP’s Facebook and Twitter channels, and via its website. The poll will run from 12noon on New Year’s Day until the end of the parade.
