Finchley Colney Hatch Asylum

What is now Princess Park Manor was until 1993 a hospital for people with mental disabilities called Friern Hospital. When it was built the hospital was known as The Middlesex County Pauper Lunatic Asylum at Colney Hatch. It was not the first such hospital in Middlesex, in 1831 an asylum for the care of 'pauper patients' with mental disabilities opened at Hanwell in western Middlesex.

Seasonal leaf clearance

During autumn and winter, we have additional resources to support the clearance of fallen leaves from roads and pavements. Leaves are cleared through manual and mechanical sweeping. This will focus initially on high footfall locations and transport hubs with the clearance of residential roads taking place after the bulk of the leaves have fallen.

Emptying litter bins

The 3000 plus public litter bins in Barnet are emptied on a regular basis. Litter bins in busier areas are emptied more often. We want to make sure litter bins are available for use and to avoid instances of littering on our streets or around the litter bins. Dog waste can also be disposed of in regular litter bins if a dog bin is not available.
