About Delivering for Barnet

Last updated: 2 February, 2023

Delivering for Barnet is the programme of regeneration and development taking place across the borough over the 15 years. It will deliver better places to live and work while protecting and enhancing the borough for generations to come. As part of the programme, we’re building more new homes than any other borough in outer London. Helping to create thriving communities. We work with developers to make sure growth and development is responsible and managed in areas that will be most enhanced by change.

Barnet Common and Physic Well

Last updated: 9 November, 2020

Barnet Common covered the whole area south of Wood Street including places such as Duck Island, and Underhill as far as the Dollis. Originally the area was a wood, which was cleared to form the common by the 16th century. In 1649 there was a short lived Digger community on the common, and around the same time the local clay was used for bricks.

Brent Street (Hendon NW4)

Last updated: 19 November, 2018

Brent Street was a section of a main road north out of London. At the Quadrant there is a milestone, the last piece of physical evidence of the old road. A small hamlet grew up during the Tudor period, at the junction of Brent Street and Bell Lane. Brent Street parish-pump supplied water for much of the area in the early 19th century, and there was also a 'cage' (1796 - 1883), an outdoor cell for holding for criminals.
