Stopping up of highway
Last updated: 14 July, 2023
Stopping up orders Stopping up orders are usually made to allow development to take place or because the public highway is no longer necessary. Public highway can include roads, streets, footpaths, public car parks, grass verges and footways. Not all roads, streets or footpaths are public highways. We have the power to stop up areas designated as highway land by making orders known as a 'stopping up' order.

Barnet population
Last updated: 19 November, 2018
The boundaries of Barnet have changed so frequently, therefore it is difficult to give accurate population figures. The pre-1860s civil parishes of Hadley, Chipping Barnet, South Mimms, and East Barnet are not consistent with the later urban districts. Only figures for between 1901 and 1961 can be produced with any consistency. Arkley 1891 = 491 1901 = 483 1911 = 494 1921 = 959 1931 = 1,929 1951 = 7,536 1961 = 8,711
