Barnet’s Labour Councillors last night (Tuesday 19 April) voted to end one of the council’s long-standing outsourcing contracts with Capita (Regional Enterprise) at the Policy and Resources committee meeting held in Hendon Town Hall.
Extremely hot weather is expected to develop on Sunday and peak on Monday and Tuesday (18 & 19 July). A red extreme heat warning has been issued by the Met Office, meaning temperatures could hit 40C (104F).
The heat can affect anyone, but some people run a greater risk of serious harm. Remember to think of those who may be more at risk from the effects of heat, including older people, babies and young children, and people with underlying health conditions.
Barnet Council provides adult social care support to more than 5,300 residents. The council has committed to investing £40m to open extra care homes over the next couple of years. The launch of the council’s new adult social care engagement and co-production strategy will ensure that everyone in the borough can have a say in how council services can be run best to meet the changing needs of people who draw on care and support and for those who give care to friends or relatives.
Barnet’s population is the second largest of London’s borough’s, with Croydon recording the highest number of residents.
The Census data shows the population is split into 188,400 (48.4%) males and 200,900 (51.6%) females.
The London Borough of Barnet has marked Armed Forces Day (25 June) with a parade and flag raising ceremony in partnership with the RAF Museum, to pay tribute to the Armed Forces, Cadets Services, veterans, and their families in the borough.
The pledges can be simple and small changes that will help them towards the national and local ‘net zero’ target of sustainable living.

The event, which takes place on Saturday 25 June, will include inflatables, music, food, sports demonstrations, competitions, giveaways and much more. It will run from 12noon-4pm across all three of the popular parks.

Barnet council is to light up Hendon Town Hall tonight (Monday 13 June) and tomorrow night to honour the memory of those who died in the Grenfell Tower tragedy five years ago.
On June 14 in 2017, a fire swept through a 24-storey block of flats in North Kensington and killed 72 people.
To mark five years since the tragedy, Barnet joined authorities all over the capital, in lighting up green for Grenfell.
