The family and friends of Rebecca Kaufman were joined by the Worshipful Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Caroline Stock, for a big party to mark the occasion.
The consultation focuses on new proposals for eight wards in Finchley, Golders Green, and Hendon.
Local people have until Tuesday 12 November 2019 to have their say on the proposals before the Commission finalises its recommendations for new wards across the whole borough in January.
The memorial – donated by John Seigal to the Barnet War Memorials Association (BWMA) – can be found on the edge of Lodge Lane Car Park, North Finchley. It was unveiled by Iris Hunt, a relative of Private Parr’s.
There are currently 1,338 empty homes in the London Borough of Barnet. Tackling empty properties increases the number of homes in the borough, reduces the fear of crime in local communities and can reduce the risk of antisocial behaviour.
One of the Scout parents, who works for Friends of the Earth, said a few words to set the scene regarding pollution, sustainability and recycling. Then coffee cups, fast-food trays, drinks cans and plastic bottles all went into the rubbish bags. After a couple of hours of hard work during the event on Saturday 21 September the Scouts had collected an impressive amount of litter.
The move means the library changes its name and is now situated in a new space in the leisure centre, equipped with improved computer facilities, an on-site café and increased parking.
The library, which opened in its new location on 24 September, is one of two partnership libraries in the borough to managed by the charity Inclusion Barnet.
This initiative gives residents with project ideas the ability to attract funding from the community, council, businesses and foundations through one portal. The partnership raised more than £500,000 for good causes during its first two years, with more than 1,000 people getting involved and pledging money.
