Electrical safety for tenants
Last updated: 23 July, 2021
By law, your landlord must ensure that electrical installations and wiring are maintained in a safe condition throughout the tenancy. As a tenant, you have a responsibility to maintain any electrical items you bring into the house, but under no circumstance should someone who is not qualified attempt to fix a problem themselves. If you notice an electrical problem, you should first inform your landlord immediately and give them an opportunity to put the problem right.

Fire safety Fire safety measures are an important consideration for all rented property, as fire is more likely to occur in a rented property than in an owner-occupied home. The risk of a fire increases with the number of occupants and the government recognises that there is a particular risk of fire in houses in multiple occupation (HMOs), especially if the tenants do not know each other. All private sector landlords are legally required to install at least one smoke alarm on every storey of their rented property.
Brent Cross Thameslink

The Brent Cross Cricklewood development is Barnet Council’s most significant growth and regeneration programme. The vision is to create a thriving town centre with attractive and high quality houses and green spaces. Alongside a modernised shopping centre, the development will be served by an additional train station, and a new high street providing local shops, restaurants and offices. We want the area to be a vibrant place to live, work and socialise.

The council commissioned Grant Thornton to carry out an independent review of financial controls, following the identification of a significant fraud committed by a former member of Re staff. Following a criminal and financial investigation conducted by the council’s Corporate Anti-Fraud Team, the individual responsible for the fraud was prosecuted and pleaded guilty to two separate charges of ‘Fraud by Abuse of Position’ and received a custodial prison sentence. Capita has confirmed it has underwritten the loss from the fraud to the council.

Future Path applied for Charter accreditation in May 2015 - as a micro-business at the time, we opted for “Commitment”, the most basic level of accreditation. This allowed us to work towards gaining the Chartermark, without needing to evidence the types of formal procedures that are more befitting of medium and large sized employers.
